DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT: 

Each year, the European Scout Bureau in Brussels hosts the European Solidarity Corps volunteers for its project “Creating a Better World”. Currently, the European Scout Region is looking for two volunteers in the areas of Advocacy and Communications (1), and the Events Management and Fundraising Support (2).

The volunteers will be expected to support the area of external communications, represent the European Scout Bureau at external meetings and support the process of development of funding applications by collecting relevant information from external partners. Both volunteers will perform under direct support and supervision of two staff members. They will also benefit from an external mentorship programme for the entire duration of their volunteering placement.

Expected start date: January 2021

Duration: 12 months (the duration of the placement can be negotiable but long-term commitment is preferred).

Location: Brussels, Belgium

The volunteers will be provided    with:

  • An allocation of 950 EUR per month (including 828 EUR for living expenses and 122 for pocket money)
  • Return flight tickets from the home country to Brussels.
  • Complementary health insurance through Cigna (in addition to an obligatory European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • A European Solidarity Corps certificate of participation
  • Free language courses through the EU’s Online Linguistic Support tool
  • 2 days off per month

Moreover, the volunteers will benefit from a full induction and a continuous role-based training. They will also attend a series of training organised by the National Agency for Erasmus + JINT.

Role description – European Solidarity Corps Volunteers:

Advocacy and Communications (1):

  • Contribute to running the regional social media calendar
  • Use social media to promote Members’ activities and achievements.
  • Monitor success stories of NSOs and propose stories for the scout.org website
  • Use easy editing tools to improve the quality of events’ photos
  • Assist in the design and preparation of the bi-monthly newsletter of the organization
  • Attend visibility events in Brussels and promote Scouting projects

Desired Profile: 

  • Aged between 18- and 30-years
  • Good creative writing skills
  • Comfortable with the use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter
  • Determined learner: you want to maximise your experience with us and learn and share as much as possible
  • A strong interest to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

Events Management and Fundraising Support (2):

  • Support communication with member organisations (National Scout Organisations) (via email)
  • Provide technical support in online funding portals (collect and complete information on partner NSOs and their backgrounds
  • Participate in international events of WSB and provide administrative support to project manager(s)
  • Acquire basic understanding of donors’ requirement to provide administrative support during reporting
  • Provide technical and administrative support in communicating funding related updates with NSOs
  • Participate in relevant meetings organised by diverse organisations in Brussels

This position involves a good deal of interactions with volunteers across our member organisations. Moreover, it will enable the volunteer to experience events management first-hand through attending events and assisting projects managers in their field work.
