European Jamboree 2020 Rescheduled to Summer 2021

The European Scout Region of WOSM and Europe Region WAGGGS are pleased to share with you the announcement that the European Jamboree 2020 has been rescheduled to summer 2021.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen Scouting and Guiding adapting their activities and finding novel ways to support young people and their communities. We are continuously amazed by the energy and creativity of Scouts and Guides across the Regions.

We have also looked ahead to our larger events taking place later this year with a particular attention to the European Jamboree 2020. Together with the Jamboree Organising Team and ZHP, WOSM and WAGGGS reviewed a thorough risk assessment, evaluating different scenarios and taking all key stakeholders into consideration.

After intensive deliberation, we have jointly decided to reschedule the European Jamboree to 2021. We are encouraged and inspired by this way forward, offering this once-in-a-lifetime experience a chance to happen next summer. As shared by our friends from the Jamboree Organisation “We are aware that our world will face challenges, even after the global pandemic has been contained. Yet in a post-pandemic world, we want the European Jamboree to be a beacon of hope and understanding, of unity and solidarity – for young people and adults. Let us use the European Jamboree as a moment of revival and recovery and set an example in good Scouting and Guiding spirit.”

Together with the Host Organisation, we will continue to closely monitor the global health situation and its potential impact.

You will find practical information related to the rescheduling in Circular 8/2020 sent to Heads of Contingents on 4 April 2020.

Until we meet again online or in person, we wish you all good health. Stay safe.

Yours in Scouting and Guiding
