The Academy 2024
22 Novemberat 19:00 - 27 Novemberat 11:30
What is The Academy?
The Academy is a unique Scout and Guide event designed to provide participants with high-quality training and networking opportunities around the core priorities of the WAGGGS and WOSM European Regions.
Symbolic Framework
What does a world you can be proud of look like?
Conflict and challenges around the world continue to escalate and the news is dominated by tension. Guiding and Scouting provide a strong foundation for our members to create good values and develop as individuals. How can we use these foundations to create a world they can be proud of? This is the focus of the Academy 2024.
Each day of the Academy will focus on a type of world we want to create:
- A connected world – what are the foundations of Guiding and Scouting and how do we foster these and maintain a quality programme as we continue to grow as organisations?
- A peaceful world – how do we create a world in which we prioritise safety, both physical and psychological, so we can meet the world’s challenges?
- A sustainable world – how can we ensure our organisations remain resilient and operate in an environmentally focused way towards a sustainable future as we adapt to a new digital age?
- A purposeful world – how do we connect members at all levels of our organisations to their purpose and empower them to shape their future?
- The world I want to change – what are participants taking home from the Academy and how will they continue to implement their learnings?
We would like to encourage participants to choose from a variety of sessions per day, composing their own training plan to match their position and particular needs. A broad range of sessions dealing with different areas of work will be offered simultaneously, with enough on offer to make the event interesting for everyone.
A detailed description of each session, providing goals, objectives and expected outcomes, will be published on the website at the beginning of October 2024.
Additionally, participants can offer informal sharing sessions to tell others of major innovations and successes from their organisations that would benefit others. Details regarding the application for this session will be provided at a later date.
Dates and Venue
The Academy will take place at the Novotel Krakow City West Hotel. For more information about the venue, please visit the hotel webpage.
Participants’ accommodation will be provided in the same hotel, in shared or single rooms.
Participants will be expected to arrive on Friday 22 November 2024 to start the programme at 20:00 (following the provided dinner), and departure is on Wednesday 27 November 2024, after 12:30.

The venue has a limited space so we can accept a maximum of 200 participants – in case of overbooking priority will be given to ensure the broadest diversity. A confirmation will be sent to all participants after the deadline.

- EUR 600 for single-room accommodation
It includes accommodation, meals and tea/coffee breaks, free access to the venue’s facilities, and session materials for the full event.
Visa and Travel Arrangements
Once participants have been selected and approved, they will receive acceptance letters. All participants should then make their own travel arrangements and, if necessary, obtain a visa. If you require an official letter in support of a visa application, please reach out to info@scoutguideacademy.eu
Please be aware that it may take a significant amount of time to obtain a visa so please apply as early as possible.
Insurance
The European Scout Region and the Europe Region WAGGGS do not cover the participants for insurance neither during the event nor during the travel to and from the venue. Please note that it is the exclusive responsibility of the Associations to check and make sure that participants are covered by insurance (illness, accident, repatriation).
Additional Funding to Support Participation
Participants who have difficulties with the travelling costs should contact in confidence their WOSM or WAGGGS Regional Offices to request information on the possibility of financial assistance from the Region.
Cancellation Policy
The viability of the event can be impacted by both regulations imposed by the authorities of the host country or countries of the sending organisations.
The European Scout Region and the Europe Region WAGGGS reserve the right to charge the association for any expenses incurred, if participants cancel their registration after their participation has been confirmed.
